TRC provides ADS™ Dry Fog Dust Suppression Systems and Water Spray Systems (WSS) for ports, marine terminals, bulk storage facilities, and material handling operations. TRC systems have been used to control dust from coal, sulfur, iron ore, grain, and other dry bulk materials in ports and storage facilities worldwide, including projects in Chile, Australia, Madagascar, India, and other regions.
ADS™ Dry Fog and Wind Fences for Port Unloading Hoppers
Port unloading hoppers are challenging dust control applications because they are often exposed to wind gusts, changing wind directions, and operational access limitations. For ADS™ Dry Fog to work effectively, the dust source must be contained so the fog and airborne dust remain within the treatment zone long enough for agglomeration to occur.
TRC can integrate wind fences with ADS™ Dry Fog to combine passive dust containment with active airborne dust capture. The wind fence helps reduce wind interference and keep dust and fog within the controlled area, while ADS™ Dry Fog captures airborne dust at the source. This integrated solution is well suited for port unloading hoppers, truck dumps, conveyor transfers, and other open bulk material handling applications where full enclosure is difficult.
Ship Loader Dust Control
Ship loading presents a different dust control challenge. As dry bulk material falls into the ship hold, dust can be released when the material impacts the pile and escapes from the sides of the growing material cone. Wind entering the ship hold can further disperse airborne dust.
For ship loaders, TRC recommends evaluating a telescopic loading chute integrated with a TRC ADS™ Dry Fog spray ring at the lower end of the chute. The telescopic chute helps control the material discharge close to the top of the pile, while the dry fog spray ring creates a dense fog cloud inside the ship hold. As airborne dust interacts with the fog, the particles agglomerate, become heavier, and settle back into the ship hold.
Where to Use ADS™ Dry Fog
ADS™ Dry Fog is well suited for containable dust sources in port and bulk storage applications, including:
-
Unloading hoppers
-
Barge and ship loading or unloading
-
Conveyor transfer points
-
Bins and silos
-
Truck and rail loading and unloading
-
Stackers and reclaimers
-
Enclosed or partially enclosed transfer areas
For best performance, ADS™ Dry Fog is often used with passive dust control technologies such as wind fences, conveyor hoods, stilling sheds, baffles, and engineered chutes.
Where to Use Water or Water with Chemical Additives
Water Spray Systems (WSS), with or without chemical additives, are typically used for open or difficult-to-contain dust sources, including:
-
Open stockpiles
-
Storage yards
-
Material conditioning for storage
-
Material conditioning for transport
-
Other exposed bulk material areas
