Coal-Fired Power Plant Dust Control

< >

For coal-fired power plants and coal handling facilities. ADS™ agglomerative dust suppression technology is an effective, low-maintenance solution for controlling fugitive dust and nuisance dust in power generation applications.

ADS™ Dry Fog can be a practical alternative to traditional dust extraction systems, including baghouses, and can also be used to upgrade existing dust control systems. This is especially valuable when plants handle dustier coal types, such as Powder River Basin (PRB) coal or unwashed South American coal.

TRC has successfully applied ADS™ Dry Fog in demanding power plant applications, including rotary car dumpers and rail dump systems. These projects require careful consideration of dust containment, automated controls, freeze protection, system reliability, and installation during scheduled plant outages.

Where to Use ADS™ Dry Fog

ADS™ Dry Fog is well suited for containable dust sources in coal-fired power plants, including:

  • Truck dumps

  • Rotary car dumpers

  • Tippler rail dumps

  • Belly rail dumps

  • Coal reclaim areas

  • Conveyor transfer points

  • Coal, limestone, and fly ash loading areas

  • Coal and limestone crushing applications

Where to Use Water or Water with Chemical Additives

Water Spray Systems (WSS), with or without chemical additives, are typically used for open or difficult-to-contain dust sources, including:

  • Open coal stockpiles

  • Coal moisture conditioning for storage

  • Roadways and exposed coal handling areas

  • Other open dust-generating sources

By combining ADS™ Dry Fog, Water Spray Systems, engineered containment, freeze protection, and automated controls, TRC provides reliable dust control solutions for coal-fired power plants, coal handling systems, limestone handling, fly ash handling, and bulk material handling operations.
