Photo Page ----  Saw and Planner Dust Application

Solutions By The Raring Corporation

The Problem

This sawmill on Vancouver Island, BC loads planner and sawdust and hog fuel into trucks from a storage bin.  Wind off the Pacific carried the very fine and light dust throughout the plant causing safety and housekeeping problems.  In certain conditions, the dust was so dense that the trucks could not be seen from just a short distance away.  Various types of water spray systems were tried over the years without success.  Cold temperatures and coastal wind chills added to the problems.

The Solution

A custom ADS dust control system was designed for the application that included fog generators inside the storage bin to prevent dust from generating while the bin was being loaded and to precondition the dust fines.  A fog ring was installed around the loading spout to fill the truck bed with fog to collect dust generated while the trucks load.  The entire system was freeze protected.

A key element of the solution was modifications made to the seals around the bin that helped contain the dust and fog and keep the wind from blowing through.

The Result

  • No more dust blowing/migrating into the mill from the bin area.

  • Safer and more pleasant work environment.

  • Reduced plant housekeeping and maintenance.
